The first game comes on Friday night, between Getafe CF and Elche CF, two teams who have enjoyed excellent starts to the season. Although some might have expected both of these clubs to be fighting in the relegation battle, they actually enter this matchday inside the top half of the table. Keen to stay there, this should be a fun way to start the matchday.

Saturday brings up four fixtures, the first of which is RCD Mallorca vs CA Osasuna, a duel between the clubs currently in 16th and 17th. In other words, it’s a match between the two clubs hovering just outside the drop zone. As such, this is a high-stakes game, and it’s also a special one for RCD Mallorca coach Jagoba Arrasate as he takes on his former club.

FC Barcelona are in action next, their second LALIGA EA SPORTS game at the Spotify Camp Nou in a row. After winning 4-0 against Athletic Club in their return last weekend, Hansi Flick will hope his squad can turn in another impressive display against a Basque side when Deportivo Alavés come to town.

Later, Athletic Club will hope to get back to winning ways when they pay a visit to Levante UD, a team currently in the relegation zone. The Basques, though, have won just one game away from home this campaign, so anything could happen.

The last game of Saturday takes place in Spain’s capital, where Atlético de Madrid host Real Oviedo. Diego Simeone’s side have won five league matches in a row, making them the most in-form team in the competition, and they’ll look to keep that up to keep their title hopes alive.

Villarreal CF are another team in good form domestically and El Submarino Amarillo are currently in third place in the table. They play in the first game on Sunday, but it’s a tricky one as they have to go away to a Real Sociedad side who have taken 10 points from the past four rounds. As such, that promises to be a very competitive game.

Then, at 16:15 CET, it’s time for ELGRAN DERBI, the first meeting between Sevilla FC and Real Betis of the season. This is one of the most passionate derbies in all of world football and it has been very evenly balanced in recent years, with two wins each and four draws across their past eight meetings. Real Betis have been finishing higher in the table the past few seasons, but they haven’t won away at their rivals since 2018 and will look to finally taste victory again at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.

RCD Espanyol, who remain inside the European qualification positions, are up next, as they pay a visit to RC Celta. Los Pericos already won both meetings between these clubs last season, so will hope to make it three in a row to maintain their position inside the top six.

The Sunday night game also involves a Catalan team, as Girona FC host Real Madrid. Xabi Alonso’s side have drawn their past two league matches, both of them on the road, so they’ll hope to finally win an away game again when they travel to the Estadi Montilivi to take on a relegation zone team.

The final game of the round comes on Monday night, when Rayo Vallecano host Valencia CF in Vallecas. Of their past nine meetings, Valencia CF have only won once. So, Los Che will travel to the capital knowing that recent history is against them, but they’ll also be confident after a dramatic derby victory last matchday.
