The league leaders take on CA Osasuna at the Spotify Camp Nou, while Real Madrid face a tricky trip to Deportivo Alavés.

With 15 matchdays completed, the LALIGA EA SPORTS table is truly starting to take shape. FC Barcelona have positioned themselves at the top of the standings, holding a four-point lead over rivals Real Madrid. They’ll look to extend that gap this weekend, while there are interesting battles to focus in on at all levels of the table. The first of these is the duel between Real Sociedad and Girona FC on Friday night. Not too long ago these clubs were playing in the Champions League, however their fortunes have turned and now the Basques sit 14th in the table and the Catalans 18th. Their priority right now is to escape the threat of relegation, so it should be an intense match-up in San Sebastián to kick off Matchday 16.

Atlético de Madrid host the first of Saturday’s matches, when Valencia CF visit the Riyadh Air Metropolitano. After suffering back-to-back defeats in league play, Diego Simeone’s side will be determined to return to winning ways and to pull themselves back into the title conversation.

Next up is a Mediterranean battle, a meeting of RCD Mallorca and Elche CF. The islanders haven’t defeated the club from across the waters since 2017, going seven matches without a victory since then. Given that Elche CF remain in good form, it could be tough for Los Bermellones to change that this weekend.

The action then moves to the Spotify Camp Nou, where FC Barcelona will look to continue their good run of form. They have won all six of their league games since defeat in ELCLASICO, and next up they host CA Osasuna. If they win, the fact that Real Madrid don’t play until Sunday would put Barça seven points clear of their title rivals, even if just temporarily, and up the pressure on Los Blancos.

The Saturday night game is a European qualification head-to-head between Getafe CF and RCD Espanyol. Considering both these clubs were sweating it out just to avoid relegation last season, it has been a remarkable turnaround and now they enter this matchday in eighth and fifth place respectively.

Sevilla FC vs Real Oviedo is the first of Sunday’s matches, and this is a meeting of two teams who desperately need a victory. They are two of the three worst teams in terms of form, with just four points each from the past six matches, so both squads need to go for the win from minute one on Sunday.

RC Celta take on Athletic Club in the next of the weekend’s fixtures, and Os Celestes will look to bring their impressive away form to Vigo. They’ve won four in a row on the road in LALIGA EA SPORTS, including last weekend’s win at the Bernabéu, but have the second-worst home form in the competition. Against Athletic Club, they’ll hope to give their home support something to cheer about.

There is a Valencian Community derby up next between Levante UD and Villarreal CF. These teams are in polar opposite situations, with the newly promoted side sitting last in the table and having lost their past five, whereas El Submarino Amarillo are third with six wins in a row.

At 21:00 CET, Real Madrid return to action and they know they desperately need a three-point haul. However, it won’t be easy away at Deportivo Alavés, given that the Basque side have lost just two of eight home games so far this season. Even though Real Madrid won both meetings between these clubs last season, those were close victories: a 1-0 and a 3-2. It’ll be fascinating to see what happens this time around at the Estadio Mendizorrotza.

The final game of Matchday 16 comes on Monday night, when Rayo Vallecano take on Real Betis. These are two teams currently competing in Europe and they’d love to qualify for continental competition once again. So, the three points on offer are very valuable, and it promises to be a thrilling game to round off the matchday.
