Nearly half of the clubs in LALIGA EA SPORTS will be combining their league games with European fixtures this season. Five of them are in the Champions League, with FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atlético de Madrid, Athletic Club and Villarreal CF all having qualified for UEFA’s premier club competition. That was possible because LALIGA EA SPORTS was granted a fifth bonus berth for this season, due to Spanish clubs’ excellent performances on the continent last season.

In the Europa League, Real Betis and RC Celta will both represent Spain. For the former, it’s a fifth year in a row in European competition. For the Galicians, it’s a first European appearance since 2016/17, when they reached the semi-finals of this competition. Then, Rayo Vallecano will be the sole representative of LALIGA EA SPORTS in the Conference League.

Never before have there been eight Spanish clubs spending their autumns and winters competing on the continent. In 2023/24, there were eight Spanish clubs who entered the season with aims of making a mark in Europe, but CA Osasuna fell at the Conference League playoff round and never reached the groups.

In this season’s Champions League and Europa League, each of the clubs in the league phase will play a total of eight fixtures, with four of them taking place at home and four of them away. It’ll be slightly different for Rayo Vallecano in the Conference League, where they’ll play three home games and three away games for a total of six league phase fixtures.
