Real Madrid will enter ELCLASICO in first place

In the matchday before ELCLASICO, Real Madrid ground out a 1-0 victory away at Getafe CF to ensure they’ll enter next weekend’s match against FC Barcelona in first place in the LALIGA EA SPORTS table. Kylian Mbappé scored the only goal of the game, to earn Los Blancos victory against a Getafe CF side who finished with nine men.

Araújo is the hero for FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona also secured a pre-ELCLASICO victory, in their case winning 2-1 at home against Catalan neighbours Girona FC. It wasn’t easy, though, for Los Azulgranas, who won thanks to a 93rd-minute Ronald Araújo goal. The centre-back spent the final minutes of the game in the attack, and coolly converted a Frenkie de Jong pass for the win.

Flick is suspended and won’t be on the touchline for ELCLASICO

FC Barcelona coach Hansi Flick received two yellow cards during his team’s victory over Girona FC, so he’ll now serve a suspension and won’t be able to take his seat in the dugout for next weekend’s ELCLASICO at the Bernabéu.

Almada’s first Atlético de Madrid goal is a match-winner

Atlético de Madrid collected all three points from their home game against CA Osasuna on Saturday night, winning the game 1-0. The only goal of the game was scored by Thiago Almada, his first for the club since joining in the summer. As it was for Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, this was also a one-goal margin of victory for Atleti, but they did enough to win it.

Antony rescues a point for Real Betis

There was another huge match near the top of the table this weekend, as third-placed Villarreal CF hosted fourth-placed Real Betis. Although the home side took a 2-0 lead, it finished 2-2 thanks to two second-half goals from Antony, the second of them deep into stoppage time.

RCD Mallorca climb out of the relegation zone

A very impressive second-half performance earned RCD Mallorca a 3-1 victory away at Sevilla FC, a result which pulls the islanders out of the relegation zone. Mateo Joseph scored twice and Vedat Muriqi once, as Los Bermellones stunned the Sevilla FC fans at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.

Rayo Vallecano shine on the road

Rayo Vallecano put in one of their most impressive performances of the season and they did so on the road, defeating Levante UD 3-0 at the Estadi Ciutat de València. Jorge de Frutos was the main man with two goals against his former club, earning a result which propels Los Franjirrojos into the top half of the table.

RCD Espanyol continue their bright start

Goals from Kike García and Pere Milla earned RCD Espanyol a 2-0 win away at Real Oviedo on Friday night, in the first game of Matchday 9, a victory which places the Catalan side in the European qualification positions. It has been a very impressive start to 2025/26 for Los Pericos.

More LALIGA EA SPORTS players qualify for the World Cup

There were also some more World Cup qualifiers held last week, in which several LALIGA EA SPORTS players helped their countries book their tickets to next summer’s tournament. Marcus Rashford played as England secured their ticket, Nicolas Pépé helped Ivory Coast confirm their place, and Pape Gueye and Pathé Ciss both featured for Senegal as they too clinched qualification.

Frenkie de Jong has a new contract at FC Barcelona

FC Barcelona announced this past week that midfielder Frenkie de Jong has signed a new contract. The 28-year-old Dutchman, who was signed in 2019, put pen to paper on a new deal that will run until 2029.
