Promotion battle features historic clubs and emerging outsiders
A few months after finishing fifth in the table and missing out on promotion in the playoffs, Real Racing Club are leading the race by topping the LALIGA HYPERMOTION. Boasting the best attack in league with 43 goals scored in 20 games, Los Racinguistas have picked up a league-high 18 points on the road, where they’ve won half of their 10 games so far.
They are followed in the standings by a solid UD Las Palmas, who are pushing for an immediate return to the top flight after being relegated last season. No team have suffered fewer defeats than Luis García’s side (three), who have conceded a league-low 12 goals.
Third-placed UD Almería are also competing for automatic promotion two years after dropping to the second tier, but the rest of the aspirants have taken many by surprise. Having finished 15th last season, CD Castellón have hit the ground running by winning half of their games so far. They are currently sitting just four points behind leaders Real Racing Club thanks to their impressive form, as they have won six of their last seven games.

One point behind CD Castellón sit one of the most historic clubs in LALIGA HYPERMOTION, as RC Deportivo are looking to return to the top flight after eight years of absence. The last playoff spot is currently occupied by an unexpected contender, with AD Ceuta getting off to a great start in their first season in the second division since 1980/81.
Only 10 points separate sixth place with the relegation zone, with other historic clubs such as Málaga CF, Real Sporting and Real Valladolid also pushing for a playoff promotion spot alongside teams such as Cádiz CF, SD Eibar and CD Leganés, all of whom had recent stints in the top flight.
In fact, only AD Ceuta (22) have collected more home points than 13th-placed SD Eibar, with Real Racing Club being the only team to have picked up more road points than 16th-placed CD Leganés. With more than 20 games to go, each of these teams are expected to mount a promotion challenge in one of Europe’s most fiercely contested leagues.

The players who have stood out
Three players are currently leading the race for the league’s top-scorer prize, as Andrés Martín, Asier Villalibre and Sergio Arribas have bagged 10 goals each. Having led the league both in goals scored (16) and assists (17) last season, Martín has hit the ground running again this term.
Meanwhile, Arribas tops the charts in terms of goal contributions with as many as 16 in 20 games for UD Almería. He is followed by Real Racing Club winger Iñigo Vicente, who has recorded a league-high 11 assists and four goals in 19 games. A special mention should go to UD Almería winger Adrián Embarba, who has paired his five assists with nine goals, three of which were scored from direct free kicks.
No goalkeeper has kept more clean sheets than Cádiz CF’s Victor Aznar (nine), who is one of the reasons why his team boasts one of the best defences in the league. He is followed by UD Las Palmas shot-stopper Dinko Horkaš (eight), as well as AD Ceuta’s Guillermo Vallejo and Real Sporting’s Rubén Yáñez, who have managed seven each.
