Sevilla FC thrash FC Barcelona by a 4-1 scoreline

One of the most shocking results of the season so far took place in Matchday 8 at the Estadio Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán, where Sevilla FC defeated FC Barcelona 4-1, with former Barça player Alexis Sánchez opening the scoring from the spot. It was the Andalusian side’s first home win of the season and dealt a major blow to Los Azulgranas, who’d entered the weekend in first place.

Real Madrid move back to the top of the table

With FC Barcelona dropping points, it means Real Madrid sit top of the table as we enter the October international break. Los Blancos managed to overcome a strong Villarreal CF side 3-1 at home on Saturday night, thanks to a Vinícius double and a goal from Kylian Mbappé. As such, Real Madrid are top on 21 points, with FC Barcelona in second on 19.

There are no more undefeated teams in LALIGA EA SPORTS

It wasn’t just FC Barcelona’s undefeated record that ended in Matchday 8, as Elche CF also lost for the first time this league campaign. The newly promoted side fell to a 3-1 loss at Deportivo Alavés, their first defeat since returning to LALIGA EA SPORTS. As such, every team in this competitive division has now lost at least once in 2025/26.

Pau López is Real Betis’ hero

In terms of the European qualification race, Real Betis have moved up to fourth place thanks to an impressive 2-1 victory away at RCD Espanyol. Goalkeeper Pau López, a former RCD Espanyol player, was the hero for Los Verdiblancos as he saved a penalty in the 13th minute of stoppage time to seal the three points.

Yet another draw for RC Celta

Drawing is becoming a habit for RC Celta. The Galician outfit held Atlético de Madrid to a 1-1 draw on Sunday night, which was their sixth draw from the opening eight matchdays. Last season they only drew seven times in the entire league campaign, but are already one draw away from that total this term.

Girona FC move off the bottom

Goals from Vladyslav Vanat and Arnau Martínez earned Girona FC a 2-1 victory over Valencia CF, a three-point haul which moves the Catalan side off the bottom of the table. They do remain in the relegation zone, but are now above Real Sociedad and above RCD Mallorca.

Kylian Mbappé wins the Player of the Month award

It was announced this week that the September Player of the Month prize in LALIGA EA SPORTS has gone to Kylian Mbappé. The Real Madrid forward has been in excellent form, and scored five goals across his four league appearances in the month of September. It’s the second time he’s won this award since his move to Spain, after claiming the Player of the Month prize for January 2025 too.

The rest of the LALIGA AWARDS winners in September

The rest of the winners of the ‘LALIGA AWARDS’ for September have also been announced. The Best Coach was Elche CF’s Eder Sarabia, while the Best U-23 Player was Real Madrid’s Arda Güler. Meanwhile, the Best Goal was the strike from distance from Real Madrid’s Éder Militão against RCD Espanyol, and the Best Save was CA Osasuna goalkeeper Sergio Herrera’s double parry in a game against Villarreal CF.

Spanish clubs secure memorable victories in Europe

Several Spanish clubs won in UEFA competitions this past midweek, with some of these victories especially memorable. Rayo Vallecano’s 2-0 win over KF Shkëndija meant they kicked off the league phase of the Conference League in the best way possible. In the Europa League, both Real Betis and RC Celta secured their first victories of the campaign, over Ludogorets and PAOK respectively. And in the Champions League, both Atlético de Madrid and Real Madrid scored five goals each, in their duels against Eintracht Frankfurt and Kairat Almaty.

Seven LALIGA EA SPORTS clubs have players in the Spain squad

Luis de la Fuente has announced his latest Spanish national team squad, and as usual the majority of the players are plying their trade in Spain. Seven different LALIGA EA SPORTS clubs have at least one player in the October squad, namely Athletic Club, Atlético de Madrid, FC Barcelona, RC Celta, Rayo Vallecano, Real Madrid and Real Sociedad.
