With Los Granotes having returned to LALIGA EA SPORTS, their rivalry against neighbours Valencia CF can resume.

The city of Valencia is looking forward to the return of its derby, with Valencia CF hosting Levante UD at Mestalla on Friday night. Following the November international break, club football returns at 21:00 CET on November 21st and it’s a fantastic fixture for football fans to enjoy. This will be the 39th official meeting of the city’s two football clubs, and the 33rd in LALIGA EA SPORTS. But, it is their first clash since April 30th 2022, over three and a half years ago. That’s because Los Granotes suffered relegation down to LALIGA HYPERMOTION at the end of that 2021/22 campaign. After spending two seasons in the second tier, they’re back, having finished top of the second division last term.

Levante UD seek a first ever win at Mestalla

The head-to-head record between these clubs across all competitions reads 21 victories for Valencia CF, nine draws and eight wins for Levante UD. Curiously, Los Granotes have never won at Mestalla, as all eight of their derby delights have come at home. They’ll hope to finally conquer Mestalla, a stadium they first visited in 1963, this weekend.

If looking just at these teams’ meetings in league play alone, it’s a much better reading for Levante UD, as the head-to-head record goes down to 15 Valencia CF wins, nine draws and eight Levante UD wins. Put another way, that means Los Che have won all six of the games between these neighbours in the Copa del Rey, but it has been a lot more even over the years in LALIGA EA SPORTS. In fact, their past three clashes have produced one victory each and one draw, a 1-1 tie in the most recent match back in April of 2022.

A huge game in the relegation battle

It’s anyone’s guess as to who’ll triumph on Friday, especially because these two clubs are very close together in the table. Worryingly for both sides, they’re both at the heart of this year’s relegation battle, with the newly promoted side in 19th on nine points and with Valencia CF in 17th on 10 points.

Neither team has a victory to their name from the past month of LALIGA EA SPORTS action, with Levante UD’s last three-point hail dating back to their 2-0 win over Real Oviedo on October 4th and with Valencia CF going winless since September 20th, when they overcame Athletic Club 2-0.

Both clubs have stuck by their coaches so far, but the pressure is on and the hotseat will grow far warmer if Friday night ends in derby defeat. This is one of the biggest games for both sets of supporters, one of the fixtures that gets marked on the calendar as soon as the schedule comes out. Now, in Matchday 13 and after three and a half years of waiting, the Valencian Derby is back!
