The final nine matchdays follow the March international break.

The business end of the 2025/26 LALIGA EA SPORTS season is here, with just nine matchdays remaining in Spanish football’s top division. The table is so tight at all levels, meaning there is still so much left to play for. The various individual awards are up for grabs too, so let’s take a look at what is still to be decided over the final two months of the campaign, which concludes on the weekend of May 24th. The title race: Just four points separate FC Barcelona and Real Madrid

This season’s title race in LALIGA EA SPORTS is one of the most thrilling in European football. Looking at the continent’s top five leagues, only Ligue 1 in France has a title race as tight as Spain’s, with the points differences at the top of the Premier League, Serie A and Bundesliga all larger than the four points which currently separate FC Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Although Los Blancos suffered a slight dip at the end of February and beginning of March, with defeats to CA Osasuna and Getafe CF, Álvaro Arbeloa’s side have recovered well and have won their past three in LALIGA EA SPORTS, including the recent derby against Atlético de Madrid. Meanwhile, Hansi Flick’s charges have won five in a row as they aim to retain the title. With ELCLASICO still to come at the Spotify Camp Nou on May 10th, anything is possible.

The quest for Europe: Jostling for position and waiting for clarity

The European qualification race is especially interesting because it still isn’t 100 percent clear which league positions will grant which tickets to UEFA competitions. That’s in part because the Copa del Rey final is still to come on April 18th, between Atlético de Madrid and Real Sociedad. If either of these clubs wins the cup and already finishes in a European spot, one extra UEFA berth would be added to the standings.

At the same time, Spanish clubs’ success in the Champions League, Europa League and Conference League so far this season means there is a chance LALIGA EA SPORTS will once again win one of the extra qualification spots. If these two scenarios happen like they did last year, then the top five finishers would qualify for the Champions League, sixth and seventh would enter the Europa League and the eighth team in LALIGA EA SPORTS would qualify for the Conference League.

Currently, Getafe CF sit in eighth and would benefit from this, but Athletic Club in ninth are level on 38 points with Los Azulones. Even 12th-placed Valencia CF are just a few points behind, on 35 points, so almost two-thirds of the clubs in Spain’s top division can continue dreaming of Europe.

The relegation battle: Just one point in it

At the very bottom of the table, the relegation battle is shaping up to be a fascinating one. Bottom-placed Real Oviedo are slightly further adrift on 21 points, which is eight points from safety, but even they still have a fighting chance of staying up.

Then, there are several teams looking to avoid finishing in the drop zone, with Levante UD in 19th on 26 points, RCD Mallorca in 18th on 28 points, Elche CF 17th on 29 points, Sevilla FC 16th on 31 points, Deportivo Alavés 15th on 31 points and Rayo Vallecano 14th on 32 points. That means there are four clubs who are currently safe but within four points of the final relegation spot.

With several head-to-head clashes coming up, such as Levante UD vs RCD Mallorca or Elche CF vs Deportivo Alavés, this relegation battle could change a lot from here to the end of the season.

The individual awards: Injuries keep the races interesting

When it comes to the most prestigious individual awards given out at the end of each LALIGA EA SPORTS season, the top two prizes are the Pichichi Trophy for the highest goalscorer and the Zamora Trophy for the goalkeeper with the best goals-to-games ratio.

Injuries have shaken up both of these races in recent weeks. Kylian Mbappé’s time on the sidelines mean his lead has been cut, and his haul of 23 goals is not so far ahead of the 18 of RCD Mallorca’s Vedat Muriqi. As for the goalkeepers competition, Thibaut Courtois is out with injury currently and might not have many games in which to improve his ratio of 0.86 goals conceded per game, which currently wouldn’t be enough to surpass FC Barcelona’s Joan García on 0.74. Six-time winner Jan Oblak is also lurking, currently on 0.96 goals conceded per game.

There is also the Zarra Trophy, for the highest scoring Spaniard, and there could be an interesting competition between a few members of the Spain squad in the weeks before the World Cup, with Lamine Yamal of FC Barcelona currently on 14, his Barça teammate Ferran Torres on 12 and Real Sociedad’s Mikel Oyarzabal also on 12. There’s so much still to play for in LALIGA EA SPORTS.
