A large number of para athletes is expected to grace this year’s National Para Athletics Trials set for Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium on Friday and Saturday.

“The Kenya National Paralympic Committee (KNPC), in collaboration with the County Government of Siaya, is proud to announce the National Para Athletics Trials 2026. The event will be held at the newly refurbished Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Stadium, marking a historic moment as the “County of Champions” welcomes the nation’s elite para athletes,” said KNPC president Ronald Milare.

He added: “These trials serve as the primary selection ground for the national squad that will represent Team Kenya in a series of high-stakes events, including the 2026 World Para Athletics Grand Prix circuit (with stops in Rabat and Tunis), regional championships, and upcoming International Paralympic Committee (IPC) sanctioned events.”

In a bid to unearth raw talent from every corner of the country, the event organizers have extended a formal invitation to a broad spectrum of participants. This inclusive approach aims to strengthen Kenya’s pipeline for the Los Angeles 2028 Paralympic Games.

The invitation is open to Educational Institutions that include Primary and secondary special schools, colleges, and universities; Sports Organizations like registered sports clubs and community-based para-sports groups as well as County-sponsored para athletes and independent individuals.

“This is a golden opportunity for our athletes to prove their mettle on a national stage. We are not just looking for seasoned veterans, but for the next generation of talent currently in our schools and colleges,” said Milare.

The two-day trials will feature a comprehensive range of track and field disciplines. A critical component of the event will be the National Classification exercise. This process ensures that athletes are grouped fairly according to the impact of their impairment on sport performance, following IPC international standards.
