Former FKF Boss Joins Calls for Normalisation Committee Following Abandoned Play-Off and Stalled Season

In a personal statement issued in Nairobi on Wednesday, October 7, 2026, the veteran administrator expressed “profound disappointment” following the controversial abandonment of the FKF Premier League play-off match between Kariobangi Sharks and Mombasa United on Tuesday.
“Having watched the FKF Premier League play-off between Kariobangi Sharks and Mombasa United on Tuesday, which was sadly abandoned, I can only make one conclusion: our football is headed in the wrong direction,” Nyamweya stated. “What should have been a celebration of sporting merit to determine promotion to the Premier League turned into an exhibition of confusion and illegality.”
Conflicting Rules and Judicial Vacuum
Nyamweya faulted the federation for organizing a fixture plagued by regulatory contradictions, pointing out that Mombasa United were entitled to qualify under the 2025 FKF Regulations, while Kariobangi Sharks had legitimate grounds to complain under the 2019 Regulations.
“You cannot have two conflicting sets of rules governing one competition. That alone renders the fixture illegal,” he noted.
He further highlighted the governance crisis plunging the game into limbo, noting that the federation currently lacks a properly constituted and independent judicial body to hear and resolve the dispute following the match’s abandonment.
“FKF is running our football like a kangaroo court, making decisions on the fly and disregarding its own statutes and FIFA principles of fairness and natural justice,” Nyamweya warned, adding that such impunity risks dragging the sport back to the courts and bringing further embarrassment to the country.

Financial Bleeding and Stalled League
The former FKF chief raised alarm over the six-week delay in kicking off the 2026/27 domestic season, pointing to the severe toll on stakeholders across the board.
“Clubs are bleeding financially, players are idle, coaches are frustrated, and fans are losing faith. This is a direct consequence of poor management of the league,” he declared.
Backing Parliament’s call for FIFA Intervention
Associating himself with recent resolutions passed by Parliament, Nyamweya called on global governing body FIFA and the Ministry of Sports to step in before the crisis deepens.
“To save Kenyan football from total collapse, I call upon FIFA and the Ministry of Sports to immediately institute a Normalisation Committee to take over the running of football in Kenya,” he urged. “Let us reset, restore order, reform the electoral and judicial bodies, and return the game to the people.”
While commending H.E. President William Ruto and the Government for creating an enabling environment through stadium infrastructure development and preparations to co-host the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) next year, Nyamweya cautioned that administrative failures could undermine these national efforts.
“The Government has created the best environment for sports to thrive… But with the current state of affairs in our game, we may end up being embarrassed as a country because of the poor management of the game. The time to act is now,” he concluded.
