Real Betis sit fifth, which is currently a Europa League spot but could become a Champions League ticket depending on Spanish teams’ results in this UEFA season. All the way down to Athletic Club in 10th, there are teams fighting for European dreams, and even Real Sociedad, who already have at least a Europa League spot guaranteed as Copa del Rey winners, could yet qualify for the Champions League if fifth becomes a pathway to that competition. Let’s, then, take a look at who is fighting for what.

Real Betis (5th, 50 points)

Real Betis have participated in European competition in five consecutive seasons, and they’re on course to do so yet again under Manuel Pellegrini. Currently, fifth place would grant access to the Europa League, but there is still a chance that fifth place could mean Champions League qualification. Over the final weeks of the season, Los Verdiblancos will hope to lock down third position to ensure they’re the ones who benefit if this comes to fruition.

Remaining fixtures: Real Oviedo (H), Real Sociedad (A), Elche CF (H), FC Barcelona (A), Levante UD (H)

Getafe CF (6th, 44 points)

José Bordalás has already led Getafe CF to Europe once before, when the team reached the Round of 16 in 2019/20, and Los Azulones are looking to qualify for another UEFA competition this year. Despite a difficult start to the campaign, the winter signings made by the club have worked out brilliantly and Getafe CF have the fourth-best record of all LALIGA EA SPORTS sides across the second half of this season. If they can keep it up, they could make a return to Europe.

Remaining fixtures: Rayo Vallecano (H), Real Oviedo (A), RCD Mallorca (H), Elche CF (A), CA Osasuna (H)

RC Celta (7th, 44 points)

After tasting European football this season, RC Celta are keen to return to the continent again in 2026/27. To do so, they’ll need to be at their best in the final weeks of the season, when they have some tricky fixtures. The Galician outfit have only won four times so far in the second half of this league campaign, and will need more three-point hauls if they’re to finish in one of the European spots.

Remaining fixtures: Elche CF (H), Atlético de Madrid (A), Levante UD (H), Athletic Club (A), Sevilla FC (H)

Real Sociedad (8th, 43 points)

By winning the Copa del Rey, Real Sociedad have already secured one of Spain’s European tickets for themselves. Currently, that ticket would be for the Europa League, but La Real could still make it to the Champions League if fifth place becomes a pathway to that competition. To do so they’ll need to make up some ground on Real Betis, who they play in Matchday 35.

Remaining fixtures: Sevilla FC (A), Real Betis (H), Girona FC (A), Valencia CF (H), RCD Espanyol (A)

CA Osasuna (9th, 42 points)

Even though they’re in ninth, CA Osasuna are just two points behind sixth-placed Getafe CF, meaning they are just two points away from European qualification. After missing out on continental football on the final matchday of last season, the team from Pamplona will hope for a happier ending to this season, and their Matchday 38 clash with Getafe CF could end up being decisive.

Remaining fixtures: FC Barcelona (H), Levante UD (A), Atlético de Madrid (H), RCD Espanyol (H), Getafe CF (A)

Athletic Club (10th, 41 points)

Athletic Club have had a disappointing season by their high standards, but they’re very much in this European race as well. Ernesto Valverde will depart at the end of the campaign, and he’d love nothing more than to bid farewell with Los Leones having clinched a European spot. They play at the Bernabéu on the final matchday, and will hope to celebrate European qualification there.

Remaining fixtures: Deportivo Alavés (A), Valencia CF (H), RCD Espanyol (A), RC Celta (H), Real Madrid (A)
