AFC Leopards junior team were on new year eve crowned the Isambo Beach Carnival champions after beating Isambo Elite Combined 2-1 at Lunyofu Stadium in Bunyala West Ward.
AFC Lepards junior team are participating in National Division Two League where they were elevated in 2020/2021 season. They act as a feeder for the senior team in case of players’ crisis.
The junior ” Ingwe” took a deserved lead in the fifth minute through Mohamed Hassan with Sydney Ochieng adding the second on the stroke of halftime.
Isambo’s consolation goal was netted by Chris Mbita in the second half, in the match watched by veteran soccer stars Boniface Ambani, Nick Yakhama, Francis Xaviour and Budalang’i MP, Raphael Wanjala.
AFC Lepards Junior team received a trophy and cash award of Ksh100,000 from the sponsor with the runners up Isambo taking home a trophy and similar amount like the winners.
Sports Cabinet Secretary, Ababu Namwamba who watched the thrilling match said as a ministry they used the encounter to sponsor the Bottom Up soccer tournament to be launched countrywide by President William Ruto before it’s cascaded to the grassroots to revive the fortune of the game in the country.
“The aim of the Bottom up tournament to be unveiled by the President this month is to ensure soccer in the country makes big stride, adding that they will construct some stadiums in the country inorder to actualize that format of football in the country.
