“Amina must answer for football mess and account for Sh1b used by football committees’” Saddique Shaban

Veteran Sports Media Personality Saddique Shaban has called out immediate former Sports CS Amina Mohamed over the misuse of one billion shillings after she took over management of football in Kenya.

“It has been a year of anguish for players, coaches and clubs. Harambee Stars were denied a chance to host the 2023 CHAN, Starlets were denied the chance to play world cup qualifiers and there is uncertainty over there AFCON Qualifications for 2023. Amina Mohamed she oversaw this mess. She owes Kenyans an explanation. She must answer the tough questions.

The Caretaker Committee was given one billion to run a league that no one recognizes. Amina put her friends, cronies and fixers in the committee and they ruined the game. She needs to be held accountable” quipped Shaban.

This issue has left a sour taste to many football lovers in the country who were treated to a ping-pong game pitting the then ‘ejected’ Football Kenya Federation officials of the National Executive Committee and the Ministry of Sports over the running of Football in the country.

Indeed, the Parliamentary Sports Committee has handled the matter including the issue of Sports Fund which has faced a myriad question from sport federations.

That the football fiasco has now been quelled with the recent lifting of the suspension that was visited on the country by FIFA last year on November, the FKF is now complaining that it is broke.

The issue of the Sports Ministry and its dalliance with scandals has been with us since 2018 when the former Sports Minister Hassan Wario was accused of abuse of office thus it is no wonder a couple of concerned sports stakeholders in the country want the immediate office holder Amina Mohamed questioned.

It is matter considered sensitive but also important to solve the impasse of sports management in the country.

FIFA had suspended Kenya on February,2022 over alleged Government interference of the sport following allegations of misuse of public funds. This move saw the FKF Boss Nick Mwendwa arraigned and charged in court but the case is still pending even as the Kiambu Magistrate Court cleared him of any wrongdoing.
