The final fixtures of the Spanish top flight take place over this weekend, with several interesting games to look out for.
Matchday 17 of LALIGA EA SPORTS is coming up this Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday and it’ll be the final round of fixtures of the calendar year. The Christmas break follows, though 2025 promises to finish on a high given that there are some brilliant fixtures coming up this weekend, such as the duel between first-placed FC Barcelona and third-placed Villarreal CF. The very first game takes place at Mestalla on Friday night, where Valencia CF take on RCD Mallorca. Both these teams are hovering just above the relegation zone, with Los Che 17th and level on points with the drop zone, while Los Bermellones are 14th and holding just two points more. Neither fanbase wants to spend Christmas in the relegation zone, making this a huge game.

Real Oviedo already know that they’ll finish the year inside the bottom three, but they’ll look to kickstart a new era when Guillermo Almada makes his LALIGA EA SPORTS debut in the first of Saturday’s games. The Uruguayan’s first game since taking over will be against RC Celta, and a huge crowd is expected at the Estadio Carlos Tartiere.
The focus remains on the bottom half of the table when Levante UD and Real Sociedad face off in the next game. These are two other clubs who have made managerial changes in recent weeks, so it’s anyone’s guess as to who’ll come out on top in this relegation six-pointer.

CA Osasuna vs Deportivo Alavés is next up, a meeting of neighbours separated by just an hour’s drive. The battle for local bragging rights should be a thriller, like it was when they played out an intense 2-2 draw in this same fixture last December.
At 21:00 CET, there is a big game at the Bernabéu as Real Madrid take on Sevilla FC. This is a huge match in the title race, with Los Blancos looking to chip into FC Barcelona’s four-point lead before the end of the year. It could also be a significant occasion for Kylian Mbappé, who is currently on 58 goals and who is looking to match or surpass Cristiano Ronaldo’s club record of scoring 59 goals for Real Madrid in one calendar year.

Sunday throws up four more fixtures, starting with Girona FC vs Atlético de Madrid. The last two games between these clubs at the Estadi Montilivi have been wildly different, with the Catalan outfit winning a back-and-forth thriller 4-3 in 2023/24, before Diego Simeone’s charges stormed to a 4-0 win in 2024/25. We’ll soon see what the outcome is this year.
One of the biggest games of the season so far is next up, a duel between Villarreal CF and FC Barcelona at 16:15 CET on Sunday. Sitting in third and first place respectively, and entering this matchday on six-match and seven-match winning runs in the league, these are two of the best and most entertaining teams in the country. It should be a brilliant game.
Elche CF vs Rayo Vallecano is the following game, and it should be a very interesting one in a tactical sense as Eder Sarabia and Iñigo Pérez, two of Spanish football’s up-and-coming young coaches, face off against each other for the first time in their managerial careers.
Real Betis host the last of Sunday’s games, welcoming Getafe CF to the Estadio de la Cartuja. Los Verdiblancos are currently fifth in the table, but they’ve won just one of their past five matches. If they want to push for Champions League qualification, they need to get back on track and take all three points here.
The final LALIGA EA SPORTS game of 2025 is the Monday night battle between Athletic Club and RCD Espanyol. The Catalan outfit are in excellent form, with four league victories in a row heading into this match at San Mamés. It won’t be easy against former coach Ernesto Valverde’s charges, but if Los Pericos can make it five victories in a row to round off the year then they truly can dream of European qualification as they enter 2026.
