Governor Otuoma appoints 11 directors to act in place of Cecs, Cos sent on compulsory leave

Busia Governor, H.E Dr Paul Otuoma has appointed 11 directors to act in place of County Executive Committee Members (CECMs) and Chief Officers (COs) who were sent on compulsory leave on Thursday, September 7th, 2022.

Addressing the affected CECMs and COs during a meeting he convened at the Busia Agricultural Training Centre, the Governor named Busia County Assembly Assistant Director Audit, Gibson Ojiambo Wafula to oversee the operations of the Department of Finance, Economic Planning and ICT.

Director Fisheries, Dr Timothy Odende is in charge of the Governorship. The Health and Sanitation docket will be headed by Public Health Director Melsa Lutomia with the Education and Vocational Training docket bestowed to Director Education and Vocational Training, Mr Leonard Opollo.

Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries docket will be headed by Livestock Production Director, David Mukabane. His Agriculture counterpart, Samson Khachina is in charge of Culture, Youth and Social Services.

Water, Environment and Natural Resources will be under the tutelage of Environment Director, Mr Dennis Chirande. Trade, Industry and Co-operatives has been assgned to
People Cooperatives Director, Oscar Odaba with James Imwene Barasa in charge of Lands and Housing.

Director Climate Change, Daniel Oteba Opilio will be in charge of Public Works, Transport, Infrastructure and Energy. Culture, Youth, Sports and Social Services has been assigned to Agriculture Director, Samson Khachina while Director Robert Muganda will handle the Public Service Management docket

The Governor said the ongoing restructuring of the County Government of Busia is not targeting any county officer but a move to ensure effective and efficient service delivery.

He stressed that he has not sacked any officer as purported by a section of the media, but was aimed at organising his government for smooth transition which is a routine check in governance.

“My pronouncement should not be blown out of proportion that I am on a sacking mission,” he noted.

As a follow up to his Thursday directive, the governor instructed affected officers to hand over their responsibilities to their respective directors he has appointed

Earlier, the governor who met departmental heads urged them to cooperate with the four Task Force Chairpersons he appointed to spearhead the implementation of 100-Days Rapid Results Initiative (RRI) deliverables.
