Rival politicians agree to work for the progress of Busia County

UDA, ODM and other affiliate parties that won seats in the August 9, 2022 General Election have agreed to work together for the sake of the residents of Busia County.

Governor elect, H.E. Dr Paul Nyongesa Otuoma had convened a meeting of elected Members of the County Assembly at Busia Agricultural Training Centre ahead of the inauguration ceremony on Thursday, August 25, 2022 at Busia Stadium.

Dr Otuoma told the MCAs elect to put Busia first since they are now elected leaders, noting that he is counting on them to make a difference as far as their oversight and legislative roles are concerned.

” Busia is greater than any individual, we should sacrifice our ambitions by putting the interest of the people first irrespective of our party affiliations,” the Governor elect said.

Dr Otuoma said Gender mainstreaming which is a strategy to achieve equality between women and men continues to pose major challenges in the County with only two women MCAs elected out of 35.

” Ten years down the line we continue experiencing gender parity. We need to reflect on this by not only nominating more women, but to encourage them to be elected in their own rights,” he said.

Deputy Governor elect Arthur Odera while thanking the MCAs who won the mandates of the electorate regretted that out of 35 elected in the second assembly, only four were re-elected terming it a clean sweep.

” The MCAs elect need to do things differently to evade voter apathy in the 2027 elections. Dedication to duty and sacrifice should be the cardinal rule to win the confidence of the voters,” he said.

Teso South Member of Parliament elect, Mary Emaase, who had paid the Governor elect a courtesy call, underscored the spirit of partnership and togetherness for the sake of the people of Busia County.

” Despite our different party affiliations, I will endeavour to work with the Governor elect and all MCAs to deliver for the people of Busia interms of water coverage, good roads and create job opportunities for the youth,” she said.

She added: ” What we do as leaders should add value. Residents of Busia County have high expectations for Dr Otuoma’s administration, thus the need to put our acts together to realize that cherished dream.”

Seven parties including ODM which won 20 seats will be represented in the third assembly. Others are MDG which has 4 MCAs, DAP-K (4), NRA (3), with UDA, Independent, Wiper and Maendeleo Chap Chap parties getting a seat each.
