Watamu ready to host rally enthusiasts as cars arrive today for final legs

The tourism town of Watamu will witness a buzz of activities for the next three days as it plays hosts to the final two legs of the East Africa Safari Classic Rally that was flagged off last week in Naivasha.
All the hotels in Watamu are already fully booked ahead of the action, a major boost to the country’s tourism.
According to the organisers, the cars will start arriving at Oceansports Beach Hotel from 3pm today, before they embark on the final leg tomorrow, with the finish and closing ceremony set for the same venue.
“Ocean Sports is really proud to host the final stage and the prize giving dinner of the 10th edition of the East African Classic safari rally on Thursday and Friday, this is a great opportunity to highlight the beauty of Watamu, and his deserved place in tourism as a quality destination comparable to anywhere in the world. We have been working day and night to prepare the venue to receive 48 classic rally cars and all the team plus their supporting crew,” Florian Biziere, Director and General Manager of Ocean Sports in Watamu told People Sport yesterday.
He added: “ Watamu will be shown to the world as one of the jewels Kenya has to offer, not only in natural beauty, but also in fine dining, sports fishing, kite surfing, scuba diving and many more activities. The East African Classic Safari Rally has been staged all over amazing Kenya and visited all the incredible and diverse ecological paradise in the country, a true taste of Kenya. It is a great privilege for Ocean Sports and we are looking forward to hosting many more international sporting events like the International Billfish competition on March 5 and 6.”
The race that has seen the drivers compete in at least 11 Counties had 20 new sections and has been sponsored by White cap, NTT, Victoria Commercial Bank, Mpesa, and Anjarwalla & Khanna among others.
