Youssef En-Nesyri has been selected as the LaLiga Santander Player of the Month in April. The African striker made a decisive contribution to the Andalusian outfit’s 13-point haul from the 15 on offer over the course of the month, scoring in three of the five matches played in April.
Sevilla FC kicked off April just two points clear of the drop zone and entered May with a 10-point cushion. The Sevillians started the month with a crucial 2-0 away win over Cadiz CF, with En-Nesyri on the scoresheet. The following matchday featured a 2-2 draw against RC Celta in which the Moroccan opened the scoring, and they went on to see out the month with three wins on the bounce against Valencia CF, Villarreal CF and Athletic Club. It was in the game against Villarreal that En-Nesyri netted his final goal in April after coming off the bench and heading home in added time to give Jose Luis Mendilibar’s men a 2-1 triumph.
Four wins and a draw make for a stellar month for Sevilla, lifting them up into the comfort of mid-table and even affording them the luxury of looking up in anticipation rather than down in trepidation.
En-Nesyri won the award for the standout player having done so previously in January 2021. He follows in the footsteps of Atletico Madrid’s Antoine Griezmann, who earned the distinction in March. The Morocco international got the nod in the final voting ahead of Ronald Araujo (FC Barcelona), Iñaki Williams (Athletic Club), Marco Asensio (Real Madrid), Griezmann (Atlético de Madrid), Amallah (Real Valladolid) and Kang-In Lee (RCD Mallorca).
