African Champions KCB Women’s Volleyball Team has produced 5 players who make up the 14 players selected by Malkia Strikers head coach Paul Bitok for the FIVB Women’s World Championships in Netherlands and Poland.
The five players are Mercy Moim (Outside hitter), Belinda Barasa (Middle Blocker), Emmaculate Nekesa (Setter), Edith Wisa (Middle Blocker), and Sharon Jepchumba (Opposite Attacker).
They spearheaded KCB Women’s Volleyball Team to glory at the 2022 African Club Championship in Kelibia, Tunisia.
The team will play two friendly matches in Belgrade, Serbia before flying to the Netherlands on September 20th, ahead of the global competition slated for September 24th to October 15th, 2022.
Speaking ahead of the event, head coach Paul Bitok said: “This is a humongous competition and we expect our girls to go out there and make Kenya proud. The selection exercise was a rigorous one after spending two months in Brazil in preparation for the World Championships.”
Malkia Strikers is in pool A alongside hosts Netherlands, Cameroon, Belgium, Italy, and Puerto Rico.
Captain Mercy Moim who was feted as the best Outside Hitter after the 2022 Africa Club Championship has also expressed her gaiety in the squad admitting the blend of younger players and experienced ones will propel the team to success in the much-anticipated showpiece.
