KCB RFC in search of historic 10th Floodlit title

Defending Champions KCB RFC will be hunting for a record-breaking 10th floodlit rugby title when the team squares it out with Nondies in the tournament’s final at the Impala Grounds this Saturday.

The bankers will miss the services of Thomas James Okidia, Brian Wahinya, Emmanuel Silungi, Wilhite Mususi and head coach Curtis Olago who have joined the Kenya Simbas away in Kakamega in preparations for the upcoming Victoria Cup in Uganda.

Forward Davies Chenge is also a doubt for the weekend’s fixture after sustaining a hamstring injury in the semi-final contest against Menengai Oilers last weekend.

Backs Coach Mariko Mshila said: “In every competition we participate in, our objective is always to win and make history as the most successful club in Kenya. This is a repeat of last year’s final, we know Nondies will come at us having rested their key players in the semi-finals. Their confidence is high, so we look forward to a thrilling match. Our boys are also high in confidence and upbeat ahead of this duel.”

KCB hammered Nondies 20-3 in last year’s floodlit rugby final at the same venue and the bankers are hopeful they will replicate their heroics in this year’s clash as the tournament marks 40 years since inception.

Saturday’s squad list will be named this evening after the team’s final training session at the den. Youngster Michael Wamalwa who impressed in his first floodlit outing with KCB is expected to start alongside Darwin Mukidza, Bob Muhatia, Griffin Musila, Festus Shiasi and Felix Ojoo.

The team will face the same opponent in the opening round of the 2023/2024 Kenya Cup season on November 26.
