KCB RFC is gearing up for an enticing Kenya Cup fixture against Nakuru-based side Menengai Oilers at the Nakuru Showground this weekend.
The bankers who are unbeaten this season secured a place in the semi-finals after seeing off Kenya Harlequin 45-15 last weekend. Currently, the team is sitting second on the log with 44 points.
“Our objective is to have momentum going into the semis which means we have to win our remaining two fixtures in the league phase of the season. Considering the Oilers lost their last fixture, they will be looking to bounce back to winning ways therefore, we must approach this match with a lot of caution,” said KCB RFC Head Coach Curtis Olago.
Olago is expected to maintain his front three of Oscar Simiyu, and Wilhite Mususi as props while captain Griffin Musila as hook. Locks are likely to be the pair of Andy Cole Omollo and the experienced Davies Chenge.
Other expected inclusions in the forwards will be back rows Peter Waitere and Felix Ojoo. At positions nine and ten, Emmanuel Opondo and Brian Wahinya maintain their positions respectively.
Speaking during a training session at the den, captain Griffin Musila said: “I am proud of this group for consistently performing at a high level throughout the season. We have a group of young and experienced players who are hungry to win the Kenya Cup title. I hope that a win over the Oilers this weekend will give us the confidence we need as we enter the semis.”
In the midfield department, Olago will play a center pairing of Bob Muhati at 12 and Festus Shiasi at 13 with an unchanged back three of Darwin Mukidza, Austin Sikutwa, and Lionel Ajeliti.
After matchday nine, KCB’s Austin Sikutwa sits second in the leading try scorers list. He also sits third on the leading points scorers with 63 points.
KCB will travel to Kakamega on March 9 for another nerve-wracking encounter against Kabras Sugar in a top-of-the-table clash.
