Opticom Nairobits Collaboration; Empowering Youth Through Digital Skills

In a positive self-sustaining initiative poised to influence the future of Kenya’s technology sector, Opticom, a security systems and solutions provider has partnered with NairoBits Trust under their Youth Professionals Program aimed at equipping youth from underprivileged communities with the digital competencies necessary to thrive in the rapidly changing job landscape.

Tim Chege, Chief Executive Officer of Opticom, expressed his optimism about the initiative accentuating its capacity to effect considerable change in the tech sector.

“Opticom recognizes the transformative potential of technology, education, and opportunity creation for the youth. Our association with NairoBits highlights our dedication to nurturing talent and creating employment pathways for young and emerging professionals, said Chege.

This partnership marks a pivotal point for both entities. For Opticom, it signifies a commitment to investing in the upcoming cohort of technology players, ensuring a continuous influx of tech-skilled individuals ready for the job market.

For Nairobits, it serves as an affirmation of its enduring mission to provide essential digital skills to youths from underprivileged backgrounds.

The Opticom Youth Professionals Program is designed to deliver ongoing workplace training, mentorship, and career advancement for graduates of NairoBits. This initiative ensures that these young professionals not only secure employment but also flourish in their careers, making significant contributions towards the tech industry.

Already Opticom has onboarded three three alumni from Nairobits, through this initiative, and their experiences epitomize the significant impact of this collaboration.

Harriet Ombachi Mwangi, currently employed as a UI/UX Designer and Web Developer at Opticom, articulated the transformative effect this opportunity has had on her life. She stated, “Before joining Nairobits, I was not well versed with tech matters and how to transform my newly earned tech skills into a professional path. The training I got has given me a hands-on approach to venture into the workplace environment. As we speak I can tackle hard tasks and deliver the specified timeline,’ said Harriet

For Sam Opiyo who graduated at the same time as Harriet his journey into the tech world has been a breathtaking experience exposing him to the tech world as well as enabling him to provide for his family and educate his younger siblings.

“Being part of an organization that prioritizes innovation and fosters my development has been astonishing. I am learning continuously and witnessing the direct effects of my contributions towards the tech world,” asserts Sam.

“Our aim extends beyond merely filling vacancies at workplaces. We are committed to cultivating talent. The future of our industry relies on the presence of skilled, innovative, and SELF-driven individuals. By collaborating with Nairobits, we are equipping these young people with the resources and opportunities necessary to emerge as leaders in their respective fields,” adds Tim.

For Nairobits, this collaboration represents a notable milestone, reinforcing its influence on the lives of the youth it serves. A true testimony of youth empowerment. Photo Captions1.)
