Serial conman Clive Wabuye Wafukho who has cheated many people with the offer of drilling boreholes was today charged with defrauding Sh 1.1 million from politician Sankok Teeka.
Appearing before Milimani Chief Magistrate Lucas Onyina, Wafukho denied one count of cheating contrary to section 35 of the penal code levelled against him by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecution.
Wafukho, who owns a company called Ivory Consult Limited is alleged to have been running a fake borehole drilling business within Nairobi county and has conned several politicians and businessmen.
According to a charge sheet filed in court, he is accused of defrauding Sankok Teeka, an aspirant for the Kajiado North Parliamentary seat in last year’s polls Sh 1,186,000 using fraudulent tricks on diverse dates between August 22 and 29,2022 at LC Plaza within Kilimani area in Nairobi county.
Prosecution alleges that Wafukho conned the complainant the million of shilling pretending he was in a position to drill a borehole for him.
Sankok had hired the contractor to drill a borehole at his home and when he gave him a deposit of sh 1.1 million, he disappeared.
According to investigations conducted by officers from Directorate of Criminal Investigations in Kilimani police station the accused person is a serial fraudster who has conned other 18 members of the public including renowned activist Boniface Mwangi millions of shillings through the same tricks.
Mwangi has lodged a complaint with the police that he had also hired Wafukho to drill a borehole at his home in Machakos and when he gave him a deposit of Sh 1 million, he went under.
“l was conned by Clive Wafukho. Paid him a deposit of Sh 1 million to drill a borehole and he disappeared. Now I’m in a WhatsApp group with all his previous victims who never said a word before because they were embarrassed they lost money. I’m the last person he will ever con,” Activist Mwangi tweeted following his prosecution.
“We are so many victims of Wafukho. He will be charged for what he stole per victim, 18 of us. He was running a fake borehole drilling business and obtained millions fraudulently. May he rot in jail,” Mwangi added.
In court, Wafukho sought to be released on lenient bail terms saying he is the sole breadwinner of his family and will comply with conditions set by the court.
Magistrate Onyina, however, ordered Wafukho to be released on a bond of Sh 300,000 or a cash bail of Sh 100,000. The case will be mentioned on May 3 for pretrial.
