At the halfway stage, FC Barcelona lead Real Madrid by four points.
LALIGA EA SPORTS returns this weekend with Matchday 20, marking the beginning of the second half of the 2025/26 season. FC Barcelona currently hold first place and a four-point advantage over Real Madrid, who have changed coach, replacing Xabi Alonso with Álvaro Arbeloa. All eyes will be on the top two as they return to league action, while there are other big games throughout the matchday. One of those fixtures is a Catalan derby between RCD Espanyol and Girona FC on Friday night. These teams have had quite different first halves of the season, but it’s Los Pericos who haven’t won in their past two whereas Los Blanquivermells have taken six points from the past six available. It’s anyone’s guess as to who’ll win this weekend.
Real Madrid play in the first of the Saturday games, what will be new coach Álvaro Arbeloa’s debut as a manager in LALIGA EA SPORTS, against Levante UD. He has already endured one setback, with Los Blancos suffering Copa del Rey elimination in midweek against Albacete Balompié, so the new boss will be desperate for three points at the Bernabéu.

Next up is a huge game for RCD Mallorca, who have been slipping down the table and who sit just one position above the relegation zone. They take on Athletic Club at home, a tricky test but one they will enter with some belief, considering the Basque side haven’t won any of their past three league games.
Bottom-placed Real Oviedo travel to CA Osasuna on Saturday evening, with the Asturian side seeking their first victory since September. It has been a very difficult return to the top flight for Los Azules, but they aren’t giving up.
The 21:00 CET match on Saturday night pits Real Betis and Villarreal CF against each other, a very attractive game between the teams currently in sixth and third. They played out a thrilling 2-2 draw earlier this season, in which Antony netted a 94th-minute equaliser, and another entertaining game should be expected this weekend.

There are four more fixtures on Sunday, starting with Getafe CF vs Valencia CF. This has been a feisty and fun fixture in recent years, and it should be once again as the likes of José Bordalás, Hugo Duro and Dimitri Foulquier take on their former clubs.
Atlético de Madrid return to the Riyadh Air Metropolitano for their first home match in over a month on Saturday afternoon, taking on Deportivo Alavés. Diego Simeone and his players will still believe they can challenge in the title race if they take things one game at a time, so they’ll set out to secure all three points in front of their home fans.
Next up is RC Celta vs Rayo Vallecano, a clash of two teams who qualified for Europe last season and who are keen to do so once again. Currently seventh and 10th, respectively, they’re on the brink of the European qualification spots and know that a victory in Matchday 20 could set up a positive second half of the season.

The Sunday night game, at 21:00 CET, takes place in San Sebastián, where Real Sociedad will welcome league leaders FC Barcelona to town. Barça have won nine league games in a row, and also claimed the Spanish Super Cup title last weekend, but Real Sociedad are undefeated in three matches under new coach Pellegrino Matarazzo.
There is one more game on Monday night, when Elche CF take on Sevilla FC. The club from the Valencian Community had an excellent first half of the season, collecting 23 points from 19 games after winning promotion last term, but the season is long and coach Eder Sarabia will know that they can’t let up. It should be an interesting one as they host a team they drew 2-2 with earlier in the season.
