Residents of Amukura Division in Teso South Sub County have reasons to smile after the push by the county leadership that has led led to the creation of a third Sub County in Teso region.
The latest development will see Amukura Central, Amukura East and Amukura West Wards merged to create Teso Central Sub County.
It will be headquartered in Amukura having been hived off from the larger Teso South Sub County.
This is a welcome move to the Iteso community which has thanked those who initiated the process led by Busia Governor, H.E Sospeter Ojaamong saying it will bring services closer to the people.
“We are happy to the President, Uhuru Kenyatta and Azimio Presidential candidate, the Rt Hon Raila Odinga for acceding to our plea for Amagoro Division to have autonomy of a constituency,” said Amukura Central Member of the County Assembly, Hon Moses Ouma.
The creation of a third Sub County in the Teso Region followed the leaders push to the National Government considering its expansiveness.
Teso South joins Mumias West as the only sub counties to be granted autonomy of sub counties, thus giving the current leadership credit for the initiative.
Both Teso North and Teso South had placed requests for sub-division of their respective Sub Counties but Teso South was granted autonomy of a sub county on the basis of their high population.
Teso South is leading with a population of 82,000. They are followed in second place by Butula with a population of 68,000 while Teso North are third with 65,000.
The creation of the new sub county brings to eight the total number of sub counties in the county. Others are Teso North, Teso South, Nambale, Butula, Matayos, Samia and Bunyala.
