Busia Governor, HE Dr Paul Nyongesa Otuoma has been appointed the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) Goodwill Ambassador for Sanitation and Menstrual Hygiene in the Lake Region Economic Bloc (LREB).
The Busia County boss was given the mandate to head 14 counties that border the Lake to develop innovative solutions to sanitation and menstrual hygiene challenges during a two-day workshop at Ciala
Resort in Kisumu.
The Governor said he will be the Sanitation and Hygiene ambassador for Women and Girls in LREB , noting that he will be traversing the entire region to promote the culture of women and girls observing sanitation and menstrual hygiene.
” USAID has given me this honour to have women and girls embrace the usage of Sanitary pads which will be availed to them by the donor agency. The first of such sensitization meetings will be hosted by Busia before it’s cascaded to other counties in the region,” he said.
Other LREB counties which the Governor will traverse while discharging his special duties include Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Nandi, Vihiga,
Kakamega, Kericho, Bungoma, Kisii and Nyamira.
USAID engaged counties to boost sanitation, menstrual hygiene
to build stronger partnerships between USAID WKSP, the private sector and county governments.
USAID Kenya Western Sanitation Project organised the workshop to strengthen and initiate dialogue between counties and the private sector to enhance access to improved sanitation and menstrual hygiene.
