Jan Oblak extended his legend as a Red & White player. In Sunday’s match against Rayo Vallecano at the Estadio Vallecas, the Slovenian international surpassed Diego Godín with 390 games played as an Atleti player, becoming the foreigner with the most appearances for the club and the tenth Atleti player with the most, leaving behind players such as Diego Godín (389), Ángel Correa (364), Filipe Luis (333), Antoine Griezmann (331) and Perea (314).
The Škofja Loka native joined the club on 16 July 2014 at the age of 21. On 16 September of the same season, he made his debut for Atlético in a Champions League match against Olympiacos.
As an Atlético player he has won four tittles: one LaLiga tittle (2020/21), one Europa League (2018), one European Super Cup (2018) and one Spanish Super Cup (2014). In addition to these titles, he also won numerous individual mentions that earned him the distinction of being one of the best goalkeepers in the world: he was part of the 2015/16 and 2016/17 UEFA Champions League teams; the 2017/18 UEFA Europa League; five Zamora trophies (2015/16, 2016/17, 2017/18, 2018/19 and 2020/21) and was named MVP of the season in LaLiga in the 2020/21 campaign.
Added to all these awards and achievements are these two new milestones: being the foreigner with the most appearances and the tenth player with the most appearances in the club’s history. Jan, who is also the goalkeeper who has defended the Atlético’s goal the most time, is now ahead of only nine other red and white legends: Koke (578), Adelardo Rodríguez (553), Tomás Reñones (483), Enrique Collar (470), Carlos Aguilera (456), Isacio Calleja (425), Juan Carlos Arteche (421), Gabi (417) and Fernando Torres (404).
