SuperSport is the ultimate destination for Golf fans, with an unparalleled selection of action from around the world.

While the Mexico Open has been around since 1944, this year signals the first time that it is elevated to be part of the elite PGA Tour – featuring 55 FedEX Cup points for the winner.

The Mexico Open in 2021 was won by local favourite Alvaro Ortiz, who shot 265 (-3) to end three strokes clear of Canadian Drew Nesbitt.

“At Grupo Salinas we are honoured to host a world-class event in our country, reaffirming our commitment to grow golf in Mexico and generate new interests and passions around this sport, especially in younger generations,” said Benjamin Salinas Sada, the vice president of the tournament sponsors.

This year’s Mexico Open is set to be headlined by Jon Rahm, last year’s US Open winner and a man widely regarded as one of the very best in the sport today.

“Jon Rahm’s participation confirms that golf in our country is stronger than ever, and is a clear indicator of how extraordinary the Mexico Open at Vidanta will be,” said Salinas Sada.

“We are very excited that the current number one golfer in the world decided to include us in his schedule for this year. I am certain that he has every intention of winning this PGA Tour event and hoist a trophy in Mexico for the first time.”

Vidanta Vallarta features a par 71, 7,456-yard course. The purse for the Mexico Open is $7.3million.

“It is a tournament that has required a great deal of work from all those involved, because in five months we have put everything together,” said Mexico Open director Rodrigo Suarez Gilly.

“We have very good partners and everything is running smoothly, we also have the plus that this tournament will be played between the Augusta Masters and the PGA Championship, which is a very good date to play good golf.”
