The club from Madrid have picked up four points from their past two league games, and can now focus on the Conference League semi-finals.
Rayo Vallecano are making history in 2025/26. The team from Spain’s capital have reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Conference League, making the final four of a European competition for the first time in club history. They’ll take on French side Strasbourg, with the first leg coming up in Vallecas this Thursday April 30th. Thanks to a couple of good results across their past two LALIGA EA SPORTS fixtures, Rayo Vallecano can approach this historic European tie with some confidence and with a bit of breathing space in the relegation battle. Just a couple of weeks ago, it looked like Los Franjirrojos could be at serious risk of going down to LALIGA HYPERMOTION, but a 1-0 victory over RCD Espanyol and a 3-3 draw against Real Sociedad have helped build a five-point cushion to the drop zone.
In each of those games, both played at home, Rayo Vallecano scored late goals. Against RCD Espanyol, a game that looked like it could finish as a goalless draw ended up as a Rayo Vallecano victory thanks to a Sergio Camello goal in the 87th minute, with the centre-forward breaking through and slotting past Marko Dmitrović.

Then, on Sunday Los Franjirrojos played out a thrilling back-and-forth 3-3 draw against Real Sociedad. Camello scored again, as did La Real’s Mikel Oyarzabal, to make it 1-1 at half-time. After Orri Óskarsson put the visitors 2-1 up, there was a big moment in the game as Rayo Vallecano thought they’d equalised, only for a penalty to be given against them at the other end of the pitch, one which Oyarzabal coolly converted.
But, the capital city club fought back from 3-1 down. Florian Lejeune turned in from a corner kick to pull one back, before Alemão headed in an equaliser in the 99th minute of the game. Vallecas erupted, and there was even time for one more Rayo Vallecano chance as they tried to win that game.
What’s for sure is that Rayo Vallecano have built up some confidence again, and will enter their Conference League semi-finals with a bit of momentum. As coach Iñigo Pérez put it: “What makes me happiest is that, despite being 3-1 down against a team that can hurt and tear you apart on the counter attack, we managed to turn it around. When all seemed lost, to close the gap, pick up a point and keep them from scoring again is something to be commended. This is a group of players that is very difficult to replicate, not only because of their sporting ability but also because of their resilience and their willingness to battle hardship.”
Now, this squad will look to reach a European final for the first time in Rayo Vallecano’s history. It won’t be easy against Strasbourg, but Los Franjirrojos have already eliminated some quality opposition to make it this far. Reaching the final in Leipzig would be a dream come true for the club’s supporters, and they’ll once again pack Vallecas on Thursday night to back their team.
