Ruthless lions meet oilers at the refinery

KCB RFC ran riot against Menengai Oilers hammering the Nakuru-based side 62-15 in a Kenya Cup duel at the Nakuru Showground.

The bankers have extended their win in the current 2022/23 Kenya Cup season to nine wins out of nine games played and today’s victory earned them a bonus point.

The home side threw the first blood earning three points after a penalty off Geoffrey Ominde’s boot, but scrum-half Samuel Asati would cancel the joyous home fans lead with an excellent try to make it 7-3.

Mukidza would add another try for the bankers before Asati got his brace and a penalty before the break gave KCB a comfortable 24-3 lead at the interval.

Commenting on the match after the final whistle, KCB RFC Coach Curtis Olago said: “This was a revenge match for us against this side considering they beat us 24-19 during the semi-finals last season. We knew what we wanted to do here today, and a win was the only foreseeable result following rigorous training during the week.”

Festus Shihasi making his debut for the first team showed his class after the break, getting a brace before Elphas Adunga, Brian Wahinya, and former Shujaa Captain Andrew Amonde cemented KCB’s win to 62-10.

Geoffrey Ominde pulled one try for his team at the death to make it 62-15 with home fans in jubilations following his artistic move.

KCB RFC will be back in action at the den on February 18th , 2023 against defending champions Kabras Sugar.
