Spanish clubs have a greater distribution across this summer’s tournament than all other league systems besides England.

The 2026 World Cup will bring together players from all around the world, with as many as 48 national teams to participate in football’s biggest tournament for the first time. Even more footballing federations will be represented, given that clubs from 68 different league systems will have at least one player present at the competition. Looking at the leagues with the highest number of players participating in the World Cup, the top five are the Premier League (163), Bundesliga (101), LALIGA EA SPORTS (81), Ligue 1 (79) and Serie A (66). If including clubs from the lower divisions of each federation’s footballing pyramid, the order remains the same with England (205) followed by Germany (108), Spain (86), France (86) and Italy (71).

66 of 72 group stage matches have a LALIGA player

It’s interesting to note that some federations’ clubs have players spread across more national teams than others. Spain moves up in the ranking when looking at the range of this distribution, as 31 national teams at this World Cup, almost two-thirds exactly, have at least one player from LALIGA EA SPORTS or LALIGA HYPERMOTION in the squad. That is the second-most in this ranking, only behind the 43 different national teams represented by at least one player from an English club.

The 31 national teams with at least one Spain-based player in the squad are: Algeria, Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Cape Verde, Canada, Colombia, DR Congo, Croatia, Côte d’Ivoire, Egypt, England, France, Germany, Ghana, Japan, Mexico, Morocco, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Qatar, Senegal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Türkiye, the United States and Uruguay.

This means every single World Cup group has a LALIGA player in it. Moreover, of the 72 matches in the World Cup group stage, 92% of games will have a LALIGA player involved and only six total matches won’t have any LALIGA representation.

Champions FC Barcelona have 15 World Cup players

As for the clubs sending the most players to this summer’s World Cup, FC Barcelona are one of the most successful in this regard. The LALIGA EA SPORTS champions have 15 representatives, including eight in the Spain squad alone. Only four other clubs across the globe have more of their squad members attending the tournament, with 19 going from Manchester City, 18 from Bayern Munich and 16 each from the two Champions League finalists, PSG and Arsenal.

Atlético de Madrid with 12 and Real Madrid with 10 are just behind FC Barcelona, while eight Villarreal CF players are going too. That means there are 45 players at this World Cup from the clubs who finished in the top four of LALIGA EA SPORTS in 2025/26.

It’ll be thrilling to watch all these stars from Spanish football take to the field this summer to represent their national teams, especially with almost every match having a Spain-based player involved.
