Boca Junior FC on boxing day became the inaugural AFOBE10 Super Cup champions after beating Kamolo FC 2-0 in the final match played at Kamolo RC Primary School grounds.
The one day event which featured four teams was sponsored by 2020-2021 season branch league top scorer, Eugene Okello Omudek aka AFOBE10.
Boca Junior which dominated the match, officiated by Jonathan Odhiambo, netted their first goal in the 27th minute through Joseph Wanyama Olunga to take a 1-0 half time lead. Festus Okiring added the second goal in the 47th minute to seal their victory.
Kamolo goalkeeper, Daniel Iringo was substituted after conceding the second goal which came through his blunder. He was substituted by Mike Okiring whose outstanding performance saw him make daring saves.
In the first semi-finals, hosts Kamolo beat Kocholia 1-0 with Collins Khisa netting the lone goal in the 11th minute following a pass from Bill Osia. The match was officiated by Division one referee, Jude Ekasiba assisted by his Division one counterpart, George Musumba and Abraham Karani (Div II).
Ulinzi players Olunga and Okiring were star attraction leading Boca Juniors to a 2-0 victory over Busia Ajax in the other semi-final encounter that was a thriller-a-minute.
Olunga headed Boca Junior’s first goal in the 32nd minute following Okiring’s sublime corner kick. Olunga netted a brace in the 92nd minute following Okiring’s cross.
Okiring has resumed training with Ulinzi Stars after the expiry of his three-year ban over alleged match fxing. Another Ulinzi player who featured in the match was Meshack ” Shaka” Emuria.
Boca FC captain Arsene Wenger said they built the ball in the first half and got one chance that they utilized, thus demoralizing their opponents.
“The game was enjoyable and we deserved to win. Talents that have been spotted in the tournament can pay off dividends if well utilized,” he said.
Goalkeeper Daniel Omuse thanked AFOBE10 Super Cup for becoming the first person in the area to sponsor a tournament which has helped nurture talents that abounds in the region.
“Eugene is still young but with a foresight; I grew up with him in the academy and with Malaba Giants,” he said, adding that they clinched the match with players who play top flight football containing pressure and mentality to beat opponents.
Kamolo captain, Oscar Omusugu said their opponents beat them through the chances they got, and despite getting many chances they failed to find the back of the net. We shall strive to clinch the branch league title whose season starts on January 7, 2023.
Also playing for Boca were Mathews Isogol of National Super League side, Mara Sugar and Nzoia goalkeeper, Daniel Omuse.
