SuperSport viewers on DStv can look forward to seeing all the action from the PGA Tour’s Travelers Championship, from the TPC at River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut, from Thursday 23 to Sunday 26 June 2022.
SuperSport is the ultimate destination for Golf fans, with an unparalleled selection of action from around the world.
First established 70 years ago, the Travelers Championship was first known as the Insurance City Open. It was then the Greater Hartford Open, Buick took over title sponsorship from 2004 to 2006, and The Travelers Company has been the tournament’s lead sponsor since 2007.
Last year’s edition was won by American Harris English, shot 267 (-13) then defeated compatriot Kramer Kickok in a playoff. English will return to defend his title in 2022 as part of a high-class field which will also include former tournament winner Marc Leishman and Matt Wolf.
A decade ago, Leishman came from six strokes down, shooting a final-round 62 at TPC River Highlands to win the 2012 Travelers, his first PGA Tour victory.
“Marc had an unforgettable week here in 2012 and Matt has a history with us dating back to 2019,” Travelers Championship tournament director Nathan Grube said. “Both of these players are fantastic additions to our field, which keeps getting better.”
Others set to feature at the Travelers Championship are Scottie Scheffler, Patrick Cantlay, Rory McIlroy, Justin Thomas, Dustin Johnson, Xander Schauffele and Harold Varner III.
“Harold has been playing great golf and we’re excited to welcome him back to the Travelers Championship next month,” added Grube. “We’re very fortunate to have the best golfers in the world support our tournament by playing in front of our enthusiastic fans. It makes for a fun week that generates a lot of good for this community.”
One player who will sadly not be appearing at the TPC at River Highlands is Bubba Watson. The three-time Travelers champion recently underwent knee surgery which will keep him out of action for several months.
“Looks like my knee will keep me out longer than hoped,” Watson posted on social media. “Having my meniscus repaired and should be swinging a club again by fall. It’s the best long term solution so I can keep playing for years to come. I appreciate any prayers y’all wanna send my way!”
The TPC at River Highlands features a par 70, 6,844-yard course. The purse for the Travelers Championship is $8.3million.
