Staunch Gor Mahia fan and ICT Cabinet Secretary Eliud Owalo today hosted the record league champions to a lunch treat at the Ole Sereni Hotel, a few hours after hosting AFC Leopards for breakfast.
Owalo also donated Sh 500,000 to the team and a further Sh 500,000 to Gor Mahia legends, on the eve of the much awaited ‘Mashemeji Derby’ between Gor and Leopards.
“ I have this afternoon hosted a luncheon in honour of Gor Mahia FC legends and the current players, together with the club officials.
The aim of the meeting was to give the current team encouragement ahead of tomorrow’s derby with AFC Leopards SC, whom I met earlier in the day, at a breakfast meeting – also to encourage them,” he told Media Guru.
He added: “As a token of support and goodwill, I have given Sh 500,000 to the present team and another Sh 500,000 to the legends. The legends gave the prime of their youth for the pride of our country. Their exemplary rich histories on the pitch should inspire the youth to excel and lift the sport to greater heights.”
Owalo was accompanied at the luncheon by the CS for Sports, Ababu Namwamba.
Among the legends present were Allan Thigo, Austin Oduor “Makhanu”,John Bobby Ogolla, Tobias Ochola “Jua Kali”,Nahashon Oluoch ‘Lule,’ Peter Ochieng Dawo, George Onyango Fundi, James Goro Oronge, George Otieno Solo, Isaiah Omondi “Janabi”,Michael Otieno, Zedekiah Otieno “Zico”,Swaleh Ochieng “Oswayo”,Sammy Omollo “Pamzo”,Victor Onyango, and Josiah Ougo “Biggy”.
“I look forward to a great derby tomorrow, and I wish to invite the fans of both Gor and AFC to turn up at Nyayo Stadium in great numbers to support their teams,” he said.
