Athletic Club striker Iñaki Williams has rewritten the football record books and is now looking to end the season on a high by winning the coveted LaLiga Santander African MVP Award.
The Bilbao-born Ghana international created global headlines with his incredible run of featuring in 251 consecutive LaLiga Santander matches for his Basque club over a seven-year period.
Injury finally halted Williams’ amazing run this season when he was unable to feature against RC Celta, but he is an amazing feat that will take some beating.
Following his return from injury, Williams was back to his influential best in a solid season for Athletic Club as they remain in the hunt for European football next season, and the pacy winger is well-established as one of the club’s most important players.
By mid-May, the 28-year-old Black Star had scored nine goals with two assists in 32 games for Athletic Club and he has always been a key figure for the Basque team.
Williams was named LaLiga Santander Mid-Season African MVP in January after overwhelmingly receiving the bulk of votes by a jury of football journalists and fans.
Now, a jury of 35 top African journalists will once again convene to decide the end-of-season LaLiga Santander African MVP, while there will also be a public vote to decide the winner – and Williams will be hoping they deem him worthy of the end-of-season title too.

It’s been another year of strong performances from Africa’s elite players in LaLiga Santander and fans will now get the chance to vote for their choice of the league’s standout African Most Valuable Player on LaLiga’s social media channels when voting opened on Thursday 18th May 2023.
