KSh 208 Million SportPesa jackpot winner elected Bomet County Assembly speaker

Former SportPesa Mega jackpot winner Cosmas Korir is the new Bomet County Assembly speaker after being elected today.

The gamer who pocketed Ksh 208 million on October 2018, was all smiles as he took the oath of office today after beating his sole opponent, a former Kipsonoi MCA, Weldon Kirui by six votes. Korir garnered 32 votes against Kirui’s six.

He is the third highest Mega Jackpot winner in the firm’s and Kenya’s betting industry history. Prior to winning the jackpot, Korir had gone broke after contesting for the Konoin Constituency seat on a CCM ticket in the 2017 elections. He lost to Brighton Yegon who also beat him to clinch the UDA ticket during the party primaries in April this year as he tried to clinch the area MP seat for the second time. At the time of winning the jackpot, Korir was an employee of the County Government of West Pokot and later moved to the national government’s Ministry of Agriculture as a technical advisor where he worked until he quit to contest in the recent elections.

After winning the mega jackpot, he formed a friendship with the SportPesa CEO who is also a first-time legislator and Kasarani MP, Captain Ronald Karauri. In August last year, the two spent a week in Bomet on a CSR mission, donating football kits and medical equipment to several hospitals in the county including the Longisa Sub District hospitals. Korir is a married father of three children, philanthropist and businessman.
