Toni Kroos vs Dani Parejo: the two top passers in LaLiga Santander face off against each other this weekend

The passing ability of Toni Kroos and Dani Parejo is no secret. Throughout their respective careers, they have been responsible for directing their teams’ attacks from the base of the play – something their statistics bear out.

Parejo and Kroos are currently the top two passers in LaLiga Santander. Parejo – who grew up in the town of Coslada just outside of the Spanish capital and came up through the youth ranks at Real Madrid – leads the way with 1,704 passes in league play, ahead of the German with 1,653. Along with Frenkie de Jong (FC Barcelona), Fran Beltrán (RC Celta) and Aleix García (Girona FC), they are the only midfielders who rank in the top 10… the rest are defenders who play the ball out from the back.

Kroos and Parejo also match each other in goal contributions: two goals and three assists apiece in LaLiga Santander this season. Yet, despite occupying similar positions on the pitch and taking on a similar role, Parejo far outstrips Kroos in terms of completed dribbles (22 to 4), while the German has more shots on goal (19 to Parejo’s 13).

Dani Parejo has been ever present for Villarreal CF in LaLiga Santander this season, while Toni Kroos has played 22, five fewer than the Madrid native. Who will be able to lead his team to victory this weekend?
